Our African drumming sessions for children in the EYFS and Key Stage 1 with Zo Zo will take place throughout the school year.
Key Stage 2
Children in years 3,4,5 and 6 learn to play the ukulele in lessons provided by provided by Cumbria Music Service.
Year 3/4
Children will follow the unit from the Get Set for Music scheme called Greek myths and will use 'Orpheus and Eurydice' and 'Pythagoras and the hammers' as stimuli. They will embed pulse and rhythmic skills through performance, improvisation and composition activities. They will use their voices, bodies, tuned and untuned instruments. They will create their own musical responses to the stories and listen to two famous pieces of work.
Year 5/6
Children will follow the unit from the Get Set for Music scheme called Africa. They will compose and perform rhythmic pieces of music using given musical conventions found in traditional African music. They will explore call and answer, astinato, polyrhythms and the use of mnemonics through games, song and whole class ensemble performance. They will listen and appraise their own music and the music of their peers.
We have all enjoyed learning new songs in our whole school singing sessions. We really like listening to different composers and identifying instruments within songs.
