Key Stage 1

Our topic for this term is 'What is history?'

Children will:

  • recognise the order events happen;
  • identify that people spend their holidays in different ways;
  • compare photographs from the past;
  • find out about the past from people who were there;
  • compare holidays from the past and present;
  • to recall life events.

 

Key Stage 2

Year 3 and 4

Our topic for this term is 'What was important to ancient Egyptians?'

Children will:

  • ask questions about sources from ancient civilisations;
  • explain the importance of the River Nile to ancient Egyptian civilisation;
  • explore the importance of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics;
  • explore the importance of gods and goddesses in ancient Egypt.
  • investigate beliefs about the afterlife in Ancient Egypt;
  • identify continuity and change in pharoah burials across the old, middle and new kingdoms.

Year 5 and 6

Our topic for this term is 'What is the legacy of the ancient Greek civilisation?'

Children will:

  • explore how geography influenced life in Ancient Greece;
  • investigate what the Greek gods reveal about life in Ancient Greece;
  • use secondary sources to compare life in Athens and Sparta;
  • explain how Athenian democracy has influenced modern democracy;
  • explain the significance and legacy of Ancient Greek philosophy;
  • evaluate the legacies of the ancient Greek civilisation.
