Our topic for this term is 'Castles' and we will think about who built the first castles and why. We will also study Norman castles in the UK and learn about the history of Carlisle Castle, including famous prisoners held there and how it has changed over the years. We will learn about the different features of medieval castles and who lived in them and what were their roles.
Key Stage 2
Year 3 and 4
Our topic for the Summer term is 'British settlement by the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots' and we will first discuss Roman withdrawal from Britain in AD 410 and the fall of the Western Roman Empire. We will learn about the Scots invasion from Ireland to Northern Britain as well as Anglo-Saxon invasions, settlements, kingdoms, art and culture, place names and village life. We will also study Christian conversion with reference to Canterbury, Iona and Lindisfarne.
Year 5 and 6
Our topic for the Summer Term is World War II and we will learn about why it started and the countries affected by it. We will discuss how the Jewish nation suffered as a result of Hitler coming to power and focus on Anne Frank's diary. We will also learn about significant battles including 'The Battle of Britain' and the significance of Winston Churchill and the part he played during the war.
