Key Stage 1

We are going to be learning about toys, past and present and we will be describing our favourite toy, finding out about toys from the past, identifying old and new toys, sorting toys into different decades and identifying similarities and differences between toys then and now.

Key Stage 2

Year 3 and 4

Our topic for the Autumn term is 'The Mayan Civilisation' and we will be studying the three main periods of this civilisation. We will learn about where the Mayan people lived and features of the main cities there. We will study what Mayan life was like in terms of houses, food and their culture. We will also compare what life was like in Britain at that time and learn about the Mayan gods and what they represented.

Year 5 and 6

We will further develop our knowledge of the Mayan civilisation by firstly consolidating our previous knowledge. We will learn why maize and chocolate were important foods. We will study the Mayan system of writing and mathematics and consider how the Mayan civilisation grew so strong when the odds against it were so huge. We will consider how we know about the Mayan civilisation today and discuss why it came to such an abrupt end.
